The Dharamsala crowd is devastated by Virat Kohli’s failure to score his record-tying 49th ODI ton

When Virat Kohli was batting on 95 and India just needed 5 runs to defeat New Zealand in an ICC men’s tournament for the first time since 2023, the audience at the HPCA stadium in Dharamsala held their breath. A maximum would have allowed him to lead India to victory while also tying master blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s 11-year-old record of 49 ODI hundreds. He attempted a massive shot, but he was able to get rid of the guy at deep mid-wicket.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-249424″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-this-month-a-new-imac-and-macbook-might-be-released-by-apple-download-2023-10-23t1.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com this month a new imac and macbook might be released by apple download 2023 10 23t1″ width=”1354″ height=”795″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-this-month-a-new-imac-and-macbook-might-be-released-by-apple-download-2023-10-23t1.jpg 293w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-this-month-a-new-imac-and-macbook-might-be-released-by-apple-download-2023-10-23t1-150×88.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 1354px) 100vw, 1354px” title=”The Dharamsala crowd is devastated by Virat Kohli's failure to score his record-tying 49th ODI ton 3″>

When Matt Henry bowled in the slot during the 48th over, Kohli attempted to loft the ball over midwicket. The bat’s face twisted, however, and the shot didn’t go the intended distance. The catch was made by Glenn Phillips at cow corner, ending a memorable inning. The game was subsequently decided by Ravindra Jadeja with a boundary off the last ball of the over, giving India a 4-wicket victory with 12 balls remaining.

After scoring a solid 95 runs off 104 balls, including 8 boundaries and 2 sixes, Virat went back to the hut. Daryl Mitchell’s century in the first innings, which enabled New Zealand to post a difficult total, was overshadowed by his tenacious performance before Mohammed Shami claimed his second 5-wicket haul in ODI World Cups.

Rohit Sharma, the captain of the Indian squad, expressed disappointment that Kohli had chosen the aerial path to score the last few runs, but he was proud of his colleague for making the sacrifice for the team for so long.

“He [Kohli] has been doing this for us for so long. He trusted himself to do the task. When we lost a few wickets in the middle, Kohli and Jadeja helped us recover. We take pleasure in our fielding abilities. At the post-game presentation, Rohit said that today’s fielding wasn’t precise.

“One of the greatest fielders in the world is Ravindra Jadeja. These things do occur. We are aware that fielding will ultimately determine a lot of things moving ahead. We like playing in various locations around the game and traveling,” he said.
