“75% Task Completed, Remaining 25% Will Be Sorted”: Rohit’s Astute Response on Selecting Shami’s Substitute for the Boxing Day Test

Due to the absence of seasoned speedster Mohammed Shami, India’s management may have a selection dilemma as they prepare for their Boxing Day Test match against South Africa. Fitness was a factor in choosing the fast bowler for the two Test matches. He was eventually ruled out, however, as the BCCI medical panel did not approve him. During the recent three-Test series against South Africa, Shami was India’s top wicket-taker. In three games, he took 14 wickets at an average of 21.

India will probably enter the field with four fast-bowling options and a spinner, given the conditions in Johannesburg. The task is to choose between Mukesh Kumar and Prasidh Krishna to fill the open position of a third pacer in the playing XI, with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj being two experienced players.

During the pre-match news conference on Monday, Rohit discussed the tie between Mukesh and Prasidh and said it was difficult to choose only one since they are both excellent bowlers with distinct skills.

Making a decision between Mukesh and Prasidh is difficult. We must ascertain the team’s goals and the pitch’s potential behavior. I spoke with KL and Rahul Bhai about our most recent trip to South Africa. Here, Rahul had achieved a century [in centurion]. I then enquired as to how the pitch went. On the eve of the Boxing Day Test in Centurion, Rohit informed reporters, “He has given me his criticism and things are running through my head about what needs to be done.

“Prasidh and Mukesh are two separate bowlers. The latter might take more out of the pitch since it is higher and strikes the deck harder. Furthermore, Mukesh has recently accomplished some really amazing things. Thus, it would depend on our goals and how the wicket plays out,” he said.

75% of the decisions have been made, according to the Indian captain, and the last 25% will be decided upon later in the day.

“Siraj and Bumrah are already here. All we need to do is decide who to choose. The remaining 25% would be handled at the team meeting once 75% of the work was completed, he said.
