The Supreme Court decided on Tuesday to schedule an appeal against the temporary ruling of the Kerala High Court, which rejected a request to halt the release of the movie “The Kerala Story,” for May 15.
For the early listing of the petition, senior attorney Kapil Sibal raised the issue before a bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud. On May 5, the Kerala High Court declined to order the release of the movie “The Kerala Story” to be stayed.
The High Court questioned petitioners on how the movie, which it noted is fiction and not history, will foster sectarianism and strife in the community while asserting that the secular Keralan society would accept the film for what it is.
The court wanted to know whether the whole caravan violated social norms.
“Nothing will occur just because the movie is shown. In November, the movie's teaser was revealed. What in the movie was offensive? What's wrong with declaring Allah to be the sole God? The nation grants its residents the freedom to practise and disseminate their faith. The court asked this question as it considered a number of petitions asking for the censor certificate for the movie to be revoked: “What was inappropriate about the trailer?
“So many films on these organisations have already been released. Christian priests and Hindu monks have both been disparaged in previous films. Did you notice that all of this is fiction? What is now so unique? The judge questioned, “How does this movie promote sectarianism and discord in the community?
The movie “The Kerala Story” is based on a plot involving terrorism. The PM said that Congress is supporting terrorists who are attempting to outlaw the movie because it “exposes the design of terrorists and shows the ugly truth of terrorism.”
Adah Sharma, Yogita Bihani, Siddhi Idnani, and Sonia Balani play the key characters in “The Kerala Story.” Sen's movie “The Kerala Story” received criticism for its trailer, which said that 32,000 state residents went missing before joining ISIS. After receiving criticism, the film's creators removed the figure and changed the description of the trailer to read, “The story of three women from Kerala.”
