Borussia Dortmund defeats Wolfsburg to keep pace with Bayern Munich by one point

Karim Adeyemi and Jude Bellingham both scored twice as Borussia Dortmund destroyed helpless VfL Wolfsburg 6-0 on Sunday to keep pace with Bundesliga leaders Bayern with three games remaining in the regular season.

The Ruhr valley club scored three goals in the first half to knock the wind out of the Wolves' sails and added three more in the second half in a lopsided match in which Wolfsburg committed several defensive mistakes.

Dortmund defeated Werder Bremen 2-1 on Saturday, moving up to 64 points, one behind Bayern.

The hosts took the lead after 14 minutes in front of a packed house of more than 81,000 spectators thanks to a strike from Adeyemi, who rose high to head in his fifth goal of the year.

When Patrick Wimmer had only goalkeeper Gregor Kobel to beat in the 20th minute, the Wolves should have equalized. However, Wimmer's shot was blocked, and Jonas Wind's rebound missed the mark.

Instead, Dortmund scored again in the 28th minute when Adeyemi provided a precise pass for Sebastien Haller to finish.

After the half, the hosts continued where they had left off with Bellingham having his effort originally stopped by goalkeeper Koen Casteels before the ball rebounded off the bar and trickled in. Donyell Malen did the same after receiving an assist from Julian Brandt in the 37th minute.

Another errant ball from Wolfsburg's defense allowed Adeyemi to saunter in and make it 5-0 in the 59th minute. The international from Germany missed an opportunity to score his first hat-trick in the Bundesliga when he blasted a 65th-minute penalty over the crossbar.

In the 86th, Bellingham put an end to Wolfsburg's agony.
